Puncture repairs in Braintree

Puncture Repairs in Braintree – Fast & Affordable

A nail or screw in the tread does not always mean a new tyre. Where the damage is in the repairable area and the casing is sound, we take the tyre off the rim, find the exact hole in a water bath, and repair it from the inside with a proper patch and plug rather than squirting sealant in through the valve.

  • Slow punctures traced properly
  • Repaired from the inside
  • Usually done in 20–30 minutes

01Chasing down a slow puncture

Losing a few psi a week is usually one of four things: a small object in the tread, a leaking valve, corrosion on an alloy wheel bead seat, or a cracked rim. We check all of them. Topping the tyre up every weekend is the sign most people ignore for too long, and it is normally a cheap fix if you bring it in early.

02When a tyre cannot be repaired

Damage in the shoulder or sidewall, a hole bigger than the standards allow, a tyre that has been driven on while flat, or existing repairs too close to the new one all mean the tyre should be replaced. We would rather lose a repair job than send you out on a tyre we do not trust. If that happens we will show you the damage and quote you for new or part worn there and then.

03Do not drive far on a flat

Running a deflated tyre even a short distance wrecks the inner liner and turns a repairable puncture into a new tyre. If you have a spare or a space saver, fit it and bring the damaged wheel to us. If you cannot, get the car brought in and we will sort the wheel here.

Chasing a slow puncture

If one tyre needs air every week or two, something is leaking. Nine times out of ten it is one of four things, and all of them are cheap to fix if you come in early rather than topping it up for months.

  • A small nail, screw or shard of glass still in the tread
  • A perished or leaking valve
  • Corrosion where the tyre seals against an alloy rim
  • A cracked or kerbed rim letting air past the bead

Why we do not use sealant in a can

Squirting sealant through the valve can get you home in an emergency, but it does not repair anything. It coats the inside of the tyre, unbalances the wheel, often ruins the pressure sensor and makes a proper repair messy or impossible. Doing it properly means taking the tyre off the rim and sealing the hole from the inside.

Run flat tyres

Run flats can sometimes be repaired, but only if they have not been driven any distance while deflated. There is no way to judge that from the outside, so bring the wheel in and we will inspect the inner liner before giving you a straight answer.

Tyre pressure warning light on?

A TPMS light usually means one tyre has dropped several psi — worth taking seriously rather than resetting. Bring it in and we will check all four pressures and look for the leak free of charge. If a sensor itself has failed, we will tell you what is involved.

How it works

Getting puncture repair sorted, step by step

  1. 01

    Bring the wheel in

Drive in, or fit your spare and bring the damaged wheel on its own. Do not drive far on a flat.

  2. 02

Off the rim, into the water

We break the tyre down and find the exact leak in a water bath, including slow seepers.

  3. 03

    Repaired from the inside

The hole is prepared and sealed with a combined patch and plug to the correct standard.

  4. 04

    Refitted and rebalanced

Bead cleaned, tyre refitted, wheel rebalanced and pressures set across the car.

Prices

What affects the price

A proper puncture repair is one of the cheapest jobs in the workshop and a small fraction of a new tyre. We only charge for the repair if the tyre can safely be repaired — if it cannot, we will show you why and quote you for new or part worn instead.

Ring 01376 433951 for a fitted price.

  • Wheel size

Bigger wheels take a little longer to break down and refit.

  • Loose wheel or on the car

Wheels brought in loose are quicker, so they are usually cheaper.

  • Run flat or standard

Run flats need extra inspection before we will commit to a repair.

  • Rebalancing

We rebalance after a repair as standard so you do not pick up a vibration.
